With over 30 years of global banking and financial infrastructure experience, his professional journey has spanned major financial hubs including Bahrain, Los Angeles, New York, Brussels, and Hong Kong. Throughout his career, he has built a reputation for advising central banks, stock exchanges, and tier-1 financial institutions on compliance and operational optimization, while later emerging as a pioneer in blockchain and digital assets.
De Weyer’s strategic acumen is built upon a rigorous European foundation of business education and early leadership. Born in Belgium, he first honed his operational management and structural thinking during his military service with the Belgian armed forces. Academically, he earned an Applied Economics degree and an MBA from the St. Ignatius Business School at the University of Antwerp, followed by foundational certifications from the International Securities Market Association (ISMA) in Montreux, Switzerland, setting a global runway for his financial career.
His early corporate career was defined by roles at major European financial institutions, beginning in 1981 at KBC Bancassurance Group in Brussels and Groupe Worms SA in Paris. He later joined the core of global banking infrastructure at SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication). During his impactful tenure at SWIFT, based out of Hong Kong, he rose to become a Global Account Director and Head of Customer Training and Commercial Services for Asia-Pacific, orchestrating cross-border payments, market infrastructure strategies, and compliance frameworks for elite institutions like HSBC and various central banks.
With the rise of the digital economy, De Weyer masterfully pivoted his expertise into blockchain, decentralized ledger technology (DLT), and virtual assets. He established himself as an entrepreneurial force by founding Cryptoworld Limited Hong Kong as CEO, providing top-tier corporate advisory services to the cryptocurrency space. Concurrently, as a Founding Partner at Sterk Capital and former Director of Payments & Banking Relations at the fintech platform XanPool, he has been at the forefront of building peer-to-peer liquidity networks and modernizing the financial tech ecosystem across Asia.
Beyond his executive and entrepreneurial roles, De Weyer is deeply committed to corporate governance and active civic engagement.
